Welcome DFI!

2012 should see quite a few new things in what the organization behind SFD is doing. One of the first and important step to be able to proceed was to update the name under which we are doing what we are doing. While Software Freedom International remains our registered name we have added a Doing-Business-As name to reflect the changes to come to our non-profit organization: Digital Freedom International.

In doing so we have also created a new website (where content will come little by little) for our organization and finally given it a logo to strengthen our branding inside and outside our community.

Competition reporting extended!

Following up on several requests we have decided to extend the competition submission deadline by one week!

Simply submit your report on or before Feb 16th28th 2012 (UTC 05h00), you will have a chance to win the fully Free and Open Source Yeeloong netbook sponsored by Lemote and the book Free Software Free Society: selected essays by Richard M. Stallman signed by the author! Big thank you to Lemote and the Free Software Foundation.

O Software Freedom Day é um evento com centenas de equipas por todo o mundo criando eventos locais para ajudar as suas comunidades a entender a Liberdade do Software. Uma maneira de se juntar ao SFD é juntando-se a um evento SFD existente. Verifique se já existe alguma equipa registada na sua área. Se houver uma, pode sempre juntar-se a ela e ajudá-los a tornar os eventos um sucesso. É DIVERTIDO juntar-se ao SFD!

Ajudas são sempre necessárias para organizar um SFD :) Pode ajudar a desenhar materiais para marketing, divulgar o evento, decorar o local, tirar fotografias, demonstrar ou apresentar sobre Software Livre no evento, etc.. Se quer criar uma equipa e organizar um evento, verifique simplesmente o  Guia de Iniciante do SFD (contribuído por líderes de equipas SFD), começe a organizar a sua própria equipa e a planear hoje! Talvz tenha havido um evento na sua área em anos anteriores, você pode definitivamente contactá-los e pedir-lhes ajuda!

Todas as equipas simplesmente registam-se online para fazer parte do Software Freedom Day. Diga ao líder da sua equipa para criar uma página de equipa e depois registar a equipa. Certifique-se que actualiza a página wiki da sua equipa SFD para que as pessoas os possam encontrar. Se tiver algum problema para criar uma equipa ou organizar um evento SFD, sinta-se à vontade para juntar-se a nós no nosso canal de IRC: #sfd-on-freenode ou à nossa lista de correio em sfd-discuss (at) sf-day.org.

Porque é que não põe a sua escola local a falar sobre Software Livre este Software Freedom Day? Dar uma palestra a estudantes, dar uma aula, fazer demonstrações de Software Livre, mostrar filmes sobre Software Livre e dar CDs de Software Livre são todas óptimas maneiras de tornar os jovens interessados.

Software Livre é muito presente na maioria dos locais de trabalho e é usado no centro dos sítios web mais populares do mundo. Os jovens são altamente afectados pelo software que usam, e o SFD é uma grande oportunidade de chegar até eles. Contacte o seu estabelecimento de ensino local e peça-lhes para os visitar. Visto que o SFD é a um Sábado, tente marcar um encontro para um dia próximo desse fim-de-semana.

How did SFD begin?

Software Freedom Day (SFD) was initiated by a group of FOSS believers, Matt Oquist, Henrik Omma and Phil Harper with the idea of distributing The OpenCD to everyone.

The idea of SFD is for everyone without a vested interest in proprietary software to unite and educate the world about the ideals of Software Freedom and the practical benefits of Free Software. August 28th, 2004, was the first ever Software Freedom Day.
