How can I help?
This page is primarilly about how you can help organise the Software Freedom Day even in the global sense. We need people to help out with marketing materials, maintaining the wiki and other web infrastructure, moderating mailing lists (yes, we do have some now).
Building ideas - Build a what-you-can-do-for-SFD listing here.
- Release FLOSS software to coincide with SFD2007 - Saturday September 15.
- Start and plan-to-nurture a new lug on SFD.
- Hold an install-fest on SFD.
- Write an article on Free/Libre and Open Source Software in your local newspaper.
- Create a CD/DVD free-to-share repository and announce it on SFD.
- Hold a series of talks in your local college.
- Organise a FLOSS-related film on SFD.
- Release (or launch) a localisation project.
Press relations - We need a strategy for contacting the computer press (on-line and paper) and the general press about our events, including local events. We need a Press Officer who can take overall charge of this.
Building sharable content - As a sub-project of the above, we need to build a listing of sharable articles, which could then be 'localised' and shared in regional newspapers in different countries, continents, cultures.
Team management - When the time approaches SFD we expect to have a large number of teams requesting materials or information. Keeping lists of this and interfacing with the teams is a job that needs doing. This might be done by a specific Team Coordinator, who would have regular contact with local teams and/or regional coordinators to provide needed support and finally organise the logistics of distribution. Contact with user groups may also be needed.
Materials Design - We need to design CD labels and covers, as well as T-shirts, bumper-stickers?, balloons, fliers, etc. This could involve many people. We might even run contests. We might want a design coordinator though. All material designs should be put on the Artwork page.
Community promotion - Promote SFD in the wider FOSS community. See CommunityPromotion for details.
